Pets, Kids & Policies

Pets:

We are a pet friendly inn.  Please let us know if you intend on bringing your pet as not all our rooms can accommodate pets.  We charge an additional $25 per night, per pet (2 pets max per room).  Your dog must be in a crate when left alone in a room.  You can rent a dog crate from us at $25/day.  We also offer dog-walking services for $15/day.  Salem is a very dog friendly town, so bring Fido or Fluffy along on your Salem vacation (don’t tell our inn cats I said that).  You are 100% responsible for any damages caused by you or your pet.  Should your pet become a nuisance to our other guests, we reserve the right to ask you to leave the inn…even in the dead of night.

We have 2 adorable inn cats; Sonny and Blakey. They are anxious to make your acquaintance and receive your belly rubs.

Kids:

For the comfort of our other guests, we cannot accept families with children under the age of 5 years.  Since we only have 6 guest rooms, we can’t offer the privacy and anonymity of a larger hotel.  You must let us know in advance if you plan on bringing a child with you as not all our rooms can accommodate children. There is a fee for an extra person.

Booking & Cancellation Policy:

In order to hold a room booking, we require a one night deposit.  Your deposit is refundable, minus a $25 cancellation fee (per room), up to one week before your reservation (except for October reservations). If you need to cancel within that final week, you will lose your deposit.  Early departures are considered cancellations and the same cancellation policy applies.

October: All reservations made for the month of October MUST be cancelled by August 31st.  If you cancel an October date after August 31, you will lose your ENTIRE stay.

Insurance:

We highly recommend that you secure some travel insurance just in case of an emergency or if your reservation needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather such as hurricanes and blizzards.  We are not responsible for cancellations due to bad weather.

General:

Check-In: 4-7pm – We can’t accommodate an early or late check-in time, unless you give us plenty of advance notice. We do not have a front desk and we run the inn ourselves.

Check-Out: 11am – We don’t offer late check-outs as we need to get our rooms turned over and ready for our next guests.

No smoking of anything anywhere inside the building.  Marijuana is legal in MA, but please do not bring it into the inn as even when not smoked, it can stink up the joint.

No candles, incense, smudging or fire of any kind.  Our home was built in 1846 and is an all wood construction.  We don’t have any sprinkler system.

No weapons of any kind are allowed inside the inn, our home.

No drink coolers with ice are allowed.  Alcohol consumption should be kept to a bottle of wine, a fifth of bourbon, etc or a six pack of beer.  No cases of anything will be allowed inside the inn.

This being an old house, there is no elevator.  None of our guestrooms are located on the ground floor.

Transportation:

If you are flying into Boston, think about taking public transit to Salem.  Our city is only a half hour train ride from North Station in Boston and the Salem Depot is only a ten minute walk from the inn.  More info at www.mbta.com.  You will also find bus information to Salem from Logan Airport at the MBTA’s website.  From the middle of May til Halloween, a ferry from Boston to Salem and Salem to Boston is operated by Boston Harbor Cruises.  It departs Boston from Long Wharf, which is right in town and our inn is only a 12-15 minute walk from the ferry’s docking point in Salem.  More ferry info at: http://www.bostonharborcruises.com/salem-ferry/.  Cab and Uber rides from Logan Airport to Salem run $45-$60, depending.  Getting a cab back to Boston from Salem will generally only run you $40 or so.

Parking:

We offer free parking.  We have 2 parking spots on site and several more in the City Of Salem’s Parking Garage, a block away from the inn.  Free parking is not guaranteed as the parking garage sometimes sells out on heavy traffic weekends (Halloween).  The garage has sold more passes than there are spaces, so selling out is a rare occurrence, but it does sometimes happen.  Only 1 parking spot is provided per room.  If you arrive in 2 cars, you are responsible for any fees associated with parking the 2nd vehicle. If you arrive early or wish to stay in Salem after check-out, parking in the Museum Place Garage is $1.25/hour and in the Harbor Garage, it’s only $0.75/hour. Parking is at your own risk and we are not responsible for any damage or theft to your vehicle. If you plan to arrive in a very large vehicle (pickup truck or large SUV), we might not be able to park you.  Large vehicles are responsible for their own parking.

LOCATION:

The Stepping Stone Inn is located right in the heart of Salem.  Everywhere you want to go in town, all the sights, restaurants and attractions, are just a few minutes walk away.
